FREDs KICK OFF THE SUMMER event 2015

FREDs "KICK OFF THE SUMMER" EVENT

FRED is promoting a new event for the 23rd and 24th May to rediscover Redcar as a seaside town. In
essence we are organising sandcastle competitions.

We are very excited to be introducing sand sculpturing wizardry from the best in the UK. The World Class:

  Sand Sculptures UK

Sand Sculpturing UK are the group behind the famous Weston Super Mare Events which they have put on for the past ten years attracting over 100,000 visitors in 2014.

They will be holding workshops over the weekend too!

Go to http://www.westonsandsculpture.co.uk/ to check out more of their fantastic artwork.

FRED will also be holding sandcastle competitions over the two days with prizes with categories. We need stewards and volunteers to oversee the sandcastle competitions and to assist with sandsculpturing. Want to be involved? Contact us. Write to: friendsofredcar@gmail.com

At TunedIn there will be an Open Mic event on Friday evening, dance performances on Saturday and a Churches Together event for Pentecost on the Sunday singing some of the most popular hymns. More on this to come but for more details please contact them at http://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/tunedin

Many Many Many people said we wouldn't be able to do this -

But we did! So this Summer come and celebrate our beach in Redcar with us. Be FRED

FRED want to embrace everything that is local and encourage all groups and businesses to make themselves available to promote who they are and what they do in order to "Kick off the Summer" in Redcar.*

We encourage, sports groups, dance classes, musical and entertainment performers, community groups, schools, residents, local businesses and volunteers in and around Redcar to come and do their own thing alongside our event.*

Showcase who you are as we are happy for you to have fun and run alongside us.

*Let FRED know if you need help with a risk assessment for any organised activities on the beach. Your activity might be subject to public liability and if you are trading you will need licencing. Write to: friendsofredcar@gmail.com

Today is about our community. Redcar can be that festival town. It's a seaside destination with  much untapped potential and is the unpolished jewel in the crown of the Tees Valley.

This is our opportunity to change the fortunes in Redcar and we will grow with the support from funders, neighbourly businesses, local industry and you, because you are FRED

As you may know we already have 100's of images of building material on Redcar beach from Coatham to Zetland. Well early this year (2014) we also received tons of pictures of Coatham Dunes.

These pictures are from same location. One looks West, the other East. The East side requires lots of attention.

These images we're so serious we took over a complaint to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) from a third party on the 7th August 2014. The HSE had their Principle Officer looking into it but have delivered no action that improves this site. (February 2015 see link below)

This issue has been clearly identified by us but there has been no foreseeable action. We are not prepared to sit back and do nothing over such a dangerous area. What on earth is RCBC thinking of, how have we let this go on for so long and how much longer are we going to risk injury to our children and visitors?

How did they/we allow our beach area around Coatham dunes to become this bad without any thought to keep it safe for weekends and holidays and for our kids to play on. Why isn't this area safe and clean?

Heartbreaking doesn't begin to describe this mess. We'd sort it ourselves if the funding was available to hire heavy equipment and we were able to remove these vast heavy objects, remove all the broken glass and cover over with sand.

The dunes are made up of broken masonry from the 1980's. These are landfill sites that we allow our children to play on. Dissipating sand has revealed the truth. This will only get worse over time if we continue to do nothing.

If you don't care, who will? Who will sort out our beach if you don't push for it? Councillors who have little interest or influence? Decision makers who don't live in Redcar and who rarely visit the beach or view this issue important? Make a difference. Your action is important. https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/Forms.nsf/ComplaintForm_3?readform

It has to be Redcar residents who champion this. That means you. You, reading this right now. Please act, this is wrong. https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/Forms.nsf/ComplaintForm_3?readform

Redcar is roughly around the same size as Scarborough - they manage their beaches and without any support from hugely profitable industries living on their doorstep.

Redcar belongs to us - own it! The beach is all of ours to enjoy. Reclaim our beach back from this unbelievable mess. https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/Forms.nsf/ComplaintForm_3?readform

Apathy is a loud statement that says "I don't care". And if you don't, if there is no pride, then here we are living it because when we say nothing - it's the same as saying "It's ok".

Together we can change our culture. Please break the mould and act now. Don't moan without action - tell the right people. https://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/Forms.nsf/ComplaintForm_3?readform

Remember, we have elected representatives. Are they doing anything about this? Have they been on the dunes? Who's your representative?

These pictures were taken right outside the caravan park where the holiday kids will be playing as well as locals who walk with their families. It's at best a claim and at worst a death trap.

Would you let your children play here. These do. We see kids doing somersaults and handstands here. Did you know this is what they're playing amongst?

Barefooted amongst glass and debris. Please complain. Surely this should stop?

Here is a suggestion. Preserve and rebuild the dunes and allow wildlife to thrive.

Thank you.
